Do what you do best...

If you have ever used a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet you will appreciate just how useful, and flexible, they can be.  Excel is used extensively by businesses and organisations around the world in many different ways.

From creating a simple list or adding up a column of figures to producing complex analysis, problem solving, or an automated data management system; it can all be done with Excel.

Examples of some of the projects I have created include:

  • A Cash-Management system for a multi-site retail company.  This system was used in the company's retail stores to record the daily takings and bankings, and then reconcile everything to produce a weekly summary which was submitted to the head-office.  The system was fully automated with Excel Macros so the end user didn't actually need to able to use Excel and the system validated the information that the user entered (for example it asked the user to confirm an entry if the amount entered was unusually high).  Each page had a series of buttons that the user clicked on to activate a function.
  • A Stock Control system, also for a multi-site retail company.  This was again used at the company's retail stores to record damaged goods which had been returned to the store and record if the goods had been sold off or returned to the supplier.    Everything was controlled by clicking on buttons or selecting from drop-down boxes so that the end user didn't actually need to be able to use Excel.  At the head-office, there was a central spreadsheet which automatically collated the information from the individual sites.  You could then search or report this data using the buttons and drop-down lists to select your criteria.
  • A complex financial forecasting spreadsheet which was used to illustrate what the effects would be of various different factors.  For example, by changing one cell for the interest rate or another cell for the profit margin required, it would recalculate the whole year's forecast so that different scenarios could be examined.  It is also possible to work backwards and calculate what factors would be required to achieve a desired end result.  You can imagine that this information could be very useful in the decision making process of the business.

I can help you with your existing Spreadsheets, help solve your problems if you are setting one up yourself, or put together something from scratch for you whatever you want it to do, however simple or complex you want it.

Excel Training

I am now also able to offer Excel training, as always, tailored to suit you.  Either on a one-to-one basis, or for small groups, I can teach you the tricks and tips to help you get the most out Microsoft Excel.  A typical short training programme starts with a discussion about what you actually need or want to know.  I then design the training so that we cover exactly what we have discussed, as well as taking you that further step to help you improve your skills further.  A week or so after the training session when you have had time to try out some of the things we have covered, I like to meet with you again so that I can answer any questions that you have and ensure that you are confident with what you have learned.
